Innovation will be “indispensable” to address the global refugee crisis, the newly appointed UN High Commissioner for Refugees has said.

Filippo Grandi also highlighted the need for political will and solidarity to support the 60 million people worldwide who have been forced to flee their homelands.

The new head of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, has started work at the agency's headquarters in Geneva.

He succeeds António Guterres, whose more than 10 years in office ended last week.

Mr Gutteres sat down with his chief Spokesperson, Melissa Fleming and reflected on one of the biggest challenges of his tenure, this past year’s refugee crisis.
