Although UN peacekeeping missions can help put a country on the right track following conflict, only a commitment from national governments can keep it there over the long term, UN Secretary-General António Guterres told a Security Council meeting on Wednesday to examine support for the transition towards lasting peace.

Prevention, only ‘sustainable solution’ to conflict, deputy UN chief tells Nigerian law students

Speaking in Nigeria, the UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed has emphasized the importance of prevention as “the only real, sustainable solution” to resolving the challenges thrown up by conflict.

A vaccination campaign against COVID-19 is launched in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, with the vaccines received through the COVAX initiative.
