Libyan women hampered by lack of midwives and gender-based violence
Libyan women are suffering from a rise in gender-based violence and a lack of trained midwives, making childbirth more hazardous.
That’s according to Georges Makram Georgi, from the UN’s Population Fund (UNFPA).
Every year, 2.7 million babies die within the first month of life and roughly the same number are stillborn, according to data provided by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The needless deaths of women and newborns during humanitarian crises are being highlighted by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) with the launch of a campaign called “Safe Birth Even Here”
