COVID-19 crisis putting human trafficking victims at risk of further exploitation, experts warn

Lockdowns, travel restrictions, resource cutbacks and other measures to curb the spread of the new coronavirus are putting victims of human trafficking at risk of further exploitation, while organized crime networks could further profit from the pandemic, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Rights expert welcomes Pope’s decision to lift ‘veil of secrecy’ on child abuse cases

The Vatican must take action to ensure justice for people who were sexually abused by priests during childhood, a UN independent human rights expert said on Thursday. 

Child abuse costing East Asia and Pacific US$209bn

Child abuse and violence is costing countries in East Asia and the Pacific around US$209 billion a year, according to the UN Children’s Fund, UNICEF.

It’s the first ever costing of child maltreatment in the region.
