Better forest management has key role in dealing with climate change: UN agency

Not only do forests absorb the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, thereby mitigating the effects of climate change, but using wood from a sustainably-managed forest as fuel instead of oil, coal and natural gas, can also reduce global warming, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said today, calling for better forest management.

Compliance body set up for Kyoto Protocol on reducing greenhouse gases

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) said today that a Compliance Committee for the Kyoto Protocol, the environmental treaty aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, has begun operations, with an enforcement branch dealing with countries having difficulties meeting their commitments.
