Security Council extends European force in Bosnia and Herzegovina for another year

The Security Council today gave a year-long extension to the European Union stabilization force (EUFOR) that is tasked with ensuring the continued compliance of all sides with the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement that ended fighting in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Too many citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina remain displaced from their homes 13 years after the country’s war ended, and many of those that have gone back to their villages live in unfinished buildings and lack basic economic opportunities, a United Nations human rights expert said today.

Head of UN war crimes tribunal to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina

The head of the United Nations tribunal set up to deal with the worst war crimes committed during the Balkan conflicts of the 1990s will arrive in Bosnia and Herzegovina today to discuss the country’s participation with the court.
