Attacks in Afghanistan by the Taliban, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/Da’esh) and pro-Government troops killed or injured more children and other civilians in 2016 than at any other time since the United Nations began keeping records, it was announced today.

Amid concerns of a severe humanitarian crisis induced by sudden return home of hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees and undocumented citizens, coupled with conflict-induced displacement, the United Nations migration agency has launched a new displacement tracking system to better understand population movements and needs in the crisis-struck country.

Thousands of Afghan children face acute malnutrition amid ‘unprecedented’ displacement – UN

Afghan citizens returning in “record numbers” says UN special envoy

UN mission in Afghanistan condemns deadly attack near German consulate in Mazar

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has condemned last night’s attack, for which the Taliban has claimed responsibility, against civilians in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif, which killed four people and wounded more than 120 others.

Afghanistan: UN Mission probing air strikes that allegedly killed 32 civilians in Kunduz

The United Nations mission in Afghanistan has said that it is currently investigating allegations that at least 32 civilians were killed and a further 19 injured in airstrikes in Kunduz city, which is in the north of the country, last Thursday.
In Kunduz, Afghanistan, about 2500 families displaced by conflict, receive humanitarian assistance from various agencies.

The United Nations will do everything in its power to support the people of Kunduz in, the political chief of UN mission in Afghanistan told Government officials, civil society and media professionals in the restive northern province, where the security situation has remained tense since the provincial capital was briefly overtaken by the Taliban in late 2015 and was attacked again in October this year.
