Condemning murder of Colombian radio journalist, UNESCO chief urges investigation

The head of the United Nations agency tasked with defending press freedom today called for an investigation into the death of Colombian radio journalist gunned down on his way to work.

“I condemn the killing of Jose Gomez Naudin and call on the authorities to do their utmost to shed full light on this crime and to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the Director-General of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Irina Bokova, said in news release.

According to eyewitness reports, Gomez was gunned down by two assailants upon his arrival at Radio Guadalajara where he presented a morning talk-back programme.

Mr. Gomez is the second Colombian to be included this year on UNESCO’s dedicated webpage for journalists killed in the line of duty.
