UN envoy condemns violent attack in northern Kosovo

The United Nations envoy in Kosovo today strongly condemned a deadly bomb attack on Sunday morning at an apartment complex in the northern city of Mitrovica, and urged residents to stay calm as authorities investigate the incident.

According to media reports, an explosive device was placed under a window of the apartment of the Haradinaj family in the complex known as the Three Towers. The father, Selver Haradinaj, was killed in the blast and two of his children were wounded.

“Our condolences go to the Haradinaj family who have our thoughts and prayers,” said the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo, Farid Zarif. “This act of violence should be condemned by all. Everyone should cooperate fully with the investigation underway to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly.”

“Further acts of violence cannot, and must not, be tolerated. Such acts can only threaten Kosovo’s peace and stability,” he added.
