UN chief voices sadness after deadly pipeline explosion in Kenyan capital

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has expressed his sorrow and sympathy for the families of the victims of today’s petrol pipeline explosion in Nairobi, Kenya, that has reportedly killed at least 75 people and injured hundreds more.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Ban extended his sympathies to the Government and people of Kenya.

“He also wishes a full and speedy recovery to the survivors. The United Nations stands in solidarity with the people of Kenya at this difficult moment,” the statement noted.

Media reports indicate the explosion occurred this morning in a densely populated slum district of Nairobi.
