UN through the lens: Looking back on a year in Haiti

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon re-appointed Edmond Mulet to his former post of Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations in March 2011.

The re-appointment followed more than a year spent in Haiti as the Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) – his second time in those roles.

Mr. Mulet was re-deployed to Haiti in the aftermath of the tragic earthquake which struck the Caribbean nation on 12 January 2010, devastating parts of the country and killing many Haitians as well as UN staff. His service there also coincided with the region’s hurricane season, crucial elections in Haiti and a cholera outbreak.

Mr. Mulet spoke with the UN News Centre, sharing some of his thoughts and memories on his time in Haiti in the accompanying audio/photo montage and a "Newsmaker" interview.
