As fresh clashes rock Yemen, Ban presses for peaceful resolution of crisis
“The Secretary-General is deeply troubled by the violent clashes in the centre of Sana’a between the security forces of the Government and armed tribesmen that have left many people dead and wounded,” according to a statement issued by a spokesperson for Mr. Ban.
“He is concerned that this confrontation might further destabilize the situation and calls for an immediate end to the fighting. The Secretary-General strongly urges all sides to continue efforts aimed at finding a peaceful resolution of Yemen’s political crisis.”
Media reports indicate that three days of clashes in the city this week have killed at least 24 persons, with some unofficial estimates putting the toll much higher.
