United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today strongly condemns the recent spate of terrorist attacks in Iraq, in which scores of civilians lost their lives and hundreds more were wounded.

“The Secretary-General is appalled by these outrageous and unjustifiable acts of violence. He appeals to the people of Iraq to remain steadfast in the wake of such brutal violence and united in their commitment to a path of national reconciliation,” his spokesperson said in a statement.

According to media reports, Shiite neighborhoods in Baghdad were hit Tuesday with a wave of attacks that claimed the lives of some sixty people and wounded hundreds of others.

Those 11 coordinated attacks took place only hours after the funeral of some of the 52 hostages and police killed Sunday during an attack against a Christian church in the Iraqi capital carried out by terrorist group tied to Al-Qaida, the reports said.
