Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is planning to travel later this month to Japan, where he will meet with senior Government officials, business leaders and students, it was announced today.

UN spokesperson Michele Montas told reporters that Mr. Ban plans to hold meetings with Prime Minister Taro Aso and Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone during his 30 June to 2 July stay in Tokyo.

He is also expected to hold discussions with Japanese business leaders and have a town hall meeting with students at the University of Tokyo.

The Secretary-General will round out his visit by meeting with the UN’s Goodwill Ambassadors in Japan, and making a guest appearance on a children’s television news programme, Ms. Montas said.
