Ban names American to senior peacekeeping support post

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced today that that he will appoint Anthony Banbury of the United States as Assistant Secretary-General for Field Support.

Mr. Banbury will be responsible for developing policies and strategies that help United Nations personnel perform effectively, as well as overseeing day-to-day operations in its 16 peacekeeping missions around the world.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Banbury served for six years as the Asia Regional Director for the World Food Programme (WFP), where he led and managed the operations in 14 countries with an overall annual budget of $3 billion.

He takes over the position from Jane Holl Lute, also from the US, and brings more than 20 years of experience in political, peacekeeping and management roles across several different regions and organizations to this role.

In his new post Mr. Banbury will report to Susan Malcorra, Under-Secretary-General for Field Support.
