Secretary-General urges Pakistanis to unite against terrorism after deadly attacks

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged all political forces in Pakistan to unite against the “scourge of terrorism” amid a series of recent bombings which have left several dead and many more wounded.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr. Ban strongly condemned yesterday’s suicide bombing in front of a police station near the Red Mosque in Islamabad. The attack reportedly killed almost 20 people, many of them police, and injured dozens more.

There have also been reports today of a series of explosions in Karachi, that have resulted in more casualties.

“The Secretary-General urges all political forces to unite against the scourge of terrorism and expresses his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Pakistan,” the statement added.
