Top UN human rights official kicks off visit to Bolivia

Louise Arbour
United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour today began a visit to Bolivia where she is expected to wrap up an agreement to establish a presence for her office there.

As part of its plans to expand its operations and champion the cause of human rights, Bolivia and Togo are two countries where the High Commissioner will open new offices this year.

In the capital city, La Paz, Ms. Arbour’s itinerary includes meetings with Government officials, Bolivia’s human rights Ombudsman and civil society members. She will visit an Aymara indigenous community located outside La Paz.

The High Commissioner’s previous stop was to Panama, where yesterday she concluded an agreement with the Government to open a Regional Office there.

Ms. Arbour’s visit to the Andean country will conclude on Friday, 16 February.
