Concerned at internal violence in Gaza, Annan urges Palestinians to foster unity

Reacting to recent internal violence in the Gaza Strip, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today called on all Palestinian sides to resolve their differences peacefully and foster national unity.
“The Secretary-General is deeply concerned over the recent deterioration in the security situation in the occupied Palestinian territory and the increase of intra-Palestinian violence,” a statement issued by spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.
“The Secretary-General calls for respect by all parties for the rule of law, and for Palestinians to resume dialogue in order to resolve differences peacefully and seek national unity,” it added.
