Victor Da Silva Angelo of Portugal named head of UN Integrated Office for Sierra Leone

Secretary-General Kofi Annan has named his Deputy Representative for Sierra Leone, Victor da Silva Angelo of Portugal, as head of the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (UNIOSIL).

Secretary-General Kofi Annan has named his Deputy Representative for Sierra Leone, Victor da Silva Angelo of Portugal, as head of the United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (UNIOSIL).

Mr. Angelo, who will start the new post at the beginning of next year, will continue to serve as the Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Resident Coordinator in Sierra Leone.

Mr. Angelo served previously as UN Humanitarian and Resident Coordinator in Zimbabwe, from 2000 to 2004.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Angelo held the positions of UNDP Special Envoy for East Timor and Asia, Deputy Regional Director for Africa at UNDP in New York, Resident Coordinator/Resident Representative in Tanzania and the Gambia, and Deputy Resident Representative in the Central African Republic. He also served as UN Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Mozambique and UN Adviser in Sao Tome and Principe.

Prior to joining the United Nations, Mr. Angelo worked as University Lecturer and Senior Statistician in the Portuguese National Institute of Statistics. In 1974-1975, he was a member of the Electoral Commission of Portugal.
