UN war crimes court says Kosovo’s ex-Prime Minister can return to politics

Following a two-to-one decision, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has chosen to allow former Kosovo Prime Minister and war crimes suspect Ramush Haradinaj to engage in politics and travel throughout Kosovo during his provisional release.

At the same time, however, he will not be permitted to hold any governmental position, and he will be required to inform the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) of his travels 24 hours in advance.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Kosovo, Søren Jessen-Petersen, today met United States Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns at the UN Mission’s headquarters in Pristina.
