Fréchette heads to Australia to address philanthropy group on poverty goals

United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Louise Fréchette heads today to Australia where she will speak about achieving global poverty and literacy goals at the opening session of a philanthropy conference.

Ms. Fréchette will deliver her address on the role of philanthropy in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – global targets aimed at cutting poverty and other social ills by 2015 – to the Second International Philanthropy Conference in Melbourne on Monday.

While there, the Deputy Secretary-General will participate in a roundtable discussion at the University of Melbourne on UN reform. She is also scheduled to meet with government officials in Canberra.

Ms. Fréchette will back at UN Headquarters on Monday, 17 October.
