UN deputy relief coordinator arrives in DR of Congo

United Nations Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator Margareta Wahlström arrived today in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) at the head of an inter-agency mission as the country tries to leave behind ethnic strife and prepares for elections next year.

Her work previously included tackling the challenges arising in strife-torn Afghanistan and the Indian Ocean region's tsunami disaster of last December.

Ms. Wahlström's team will assess the humanitarian and developmental issues the DRC must handle before the UN Country Team issues its humanitarian action plan for next year.
