Security Council condemns weekend terrorist bombing in Egypt

Amb. Adamantios Vassilakis
Unequivocally condemning last Saturday's "horrendous" terrorist attack in Sharm el-Sheikh, the United Nations Security Council today urged all States to cooperate with the Egyptian authorities to bring to justice the perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of that attack.

"The Security Council reaffirms that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motivation, whenever and by whomever committed," said Ambassador Adamantios Vassilakis of Greece, which holds the Council's Presidency for July.

Reading out a statement in a formal meeting, Ambassador Vassilakis also expressed the Council's deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims and their families and to the people and the Government of Egypt, as well as to all other countries whose citizens were killed or injured in the attack.
