Secretary-General meets with UN staff in India

Secretary-General Kofi Annan today met with United Nations staffers in India, where he is on an official trip, and will meet with the country’s top leaders tomorrow.

Mr. Annan’s talk with UN workers focused on UN reconstruction assistance for victims of last December’s tsunami, and the rise of HIV/AIDS in India.

Wednesday the Secretary-General is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with government officials – including President Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Foreign Minister K. Natwar Singh.

Mr. Annan is also slated to take part in a roundtable discussion on HIV/AIDS, during which he will meet people living with HIV and hear of the work undertaken by key aid providers.
