Security Council calls for 'robust action' to enforce arms embargo on Somalia

Amb. Abdallah Baali
Members of the United Nations Security Council today called on countries in a position to enforce the arms embargo against Somalia to stop the flow of weapons to the war-ravaged Horn of Africa nation.

Reading a statement to the press following a closed-door briefing, Council President Abdallah Baali of Algeria said the members were "deeply concerned" by reports that widespread violations of the arms embargo continue.

Council members called on countries concerned to take "robust action to implement the arms embargo," he said.

The President added that the Council will consider "what further steps might be needed" to stop weapons trafficking in Somalia.
