Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Personal Representative for Southern Lebanon today called on Israel to cease its air violations over Lebanese territory.

Staffan de Mistura issued his statement in Beirut in response to eight flights involving 11 aircraft and three drones across the Blue Line, as the line of withdrawal is known. There was no reported anti-aircraft fire.

"The United Nations reminds all concerned that one violation cannot justify another," he said. "It calls on Israel to cease its overflights, which represent a continuing violation of the Blue Line."
