UN envoy calls on Israel to halt air violations over Lebanon

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Personal Representative for southern Lebanon, Staffan di Mistura, today reiterated his call for Israel to cease its air violations over Lebanon after a fresh round of violations were reported.

A spokesman for the Secretary-General told a press briefing today in New York that nine Israeli air violations were recorded over southern and eastern Lebanon.

Mr. di Mistura has warned previously that air violations have the potential to escalate tensions and provoke anti-aircraft fire. Thirteen rounds of anti-aircraft fire were recorded in southern Lebanon in the latest incidents.

Mr. di Mistura reminded all parties to refrain from violating the Blue Line in accordance with Security Council resolutions.
