Fréchette to meet Canadian board and address tourism group in China

United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Louise Fréchette today headed to Vancouver for a foundation meeting, to be followed by a speech before the World Tourism Organization in China.

According to a UN spokesman, while in Vancouver Ms. Fréchette will participate in a meeting of the Board of the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation, which deals with current social science and humanities issues.

On 19 October in Beijing, she will address the opening of the general assembly of the tourism group, where one of the main issues will be the agreement that will make the World Tourism Organization a specialized agency of the United Nations system, spokesman Fred Eckhard said. While in China, the Deputy Secretary-General will also have meetings with government officials as well as the UN country team, he said.

In its website, the Trudeau Foundation says it "seeks to promote outstanding research in the social sciences and humanities, and to foster a fruitful dialogue between scholars and policymakers in government, business, the voluntary sector, the professions and the arts community."
