ECOSOC agrees to form advisory group on conflict-torn Burundi

The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), holding its annual meeting in Geneva, has adopted a resolution to establish an Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Burundi as part of its bid to assist African countries emerging from conflict.

In the text of the resolution, ECOSOC urges all donor countries to fulfil commitments they made at conferences in Paris and Geneva regarding assistance to Burundi.

The Council also welcomes the convening of a donor round table organized by the Government of Burundi in collaboration with the UN Development Programme (UNDP), scheduled for this September.

The President of ECOSOC was entrusted with the task of holding consultations and making recommendations on the composition, terms of reference and relevant modalities for the creation of the Group by the end of August so as to enable it to participate in the donor round table.
