Annan asks General Assembly to confirm another term for chief UN development official

Secretary-General Kofi Annan has asked the General Assembly to confirm the appointment of Mark Malloch Brown for another four-year term as the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), beginning 1 July.
The Secretary-General's request was made in a letter to the Assembly released today, and comes after his consultations with members of UNDP's Executive Board.
The Assembly had previously confirmed Mr. Malloch Brown's initial four-year term as UNDP Administrator, which began on 1 July 1999.
