Major-General Patrick Cammaert named new UN Military Advisor

Secretary-General Kofi Annan today announced the appointment of Major General Patrick Cammaert of the Netherlands as the new Military Advisor in the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations.

Currently the Force Commander of the UN Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE), Major General Cammaert has served previously as Commander of the Multi National UN Stand-by Forces High Readiness Brigade (SHIRBRIG).

He also served as Battalion Commander in the UN Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC), and Commander of the Multi National Brigade of the Rapid Reaction Forces of the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR).

Major General Cammaert will succeed Major General Tim Ford of Australia in November.
