Annan readies for official visits to China, Mongolia and 5 Central Asian countries

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan will be leaving this weekend for official visits to China, Mongolia and five Central Asian countries, a UN spokesman announced today.

The Secretary-General is scheduled to depart on Saturday for China for three days of talks before arriving in Mongolia on 16 October for a two-day visit.

Mr. Annan will then head to the five Central Asian Republics - Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan - from 17 to 23 October before returning to New York.
