UN mission congratulates Bosnia and Herzegovina for peaceful elections

7 October 2002

The United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH) today congratulated the country for successfully holding general and presidential elections over the weekend, calling this development “strong proof” of the electorate’s maturity.

Saturday’s polling passed in a peaceful atmosphere with no serious incidents being reported, the Mission said, noting that the calm environment also illustrated “the excellent security measures taken by local police.”

UNMIBH also commended all Ministries of Interior and all police officers on their outstanding performance during the elections, “which enabled the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to cast their ballots in a free and secure environment.”
