Annan saddened at news that hundreds are feared dead in Senegalese ferry accident
Responding to reports of a deadly ferry accident in Africa, the United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, today reacted with sorrow and voiced his sympathy for all those affected by the tragedy.
"The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the news that hundreds of people are feared drowned after a Senegalese passenger ferry capsized off the coast of Gambia in a violent storm," a spokesman for Mr. Annan said in a statement released in New York.
The statement also extended the Secretary-General's "heartfelt condolences to the Government, families and friends of the victims."
