In Ghana, Annan receives honorary title from Ashanti people
The Ashanti people of Ghana have bestowed a unique title of "Busumuru," or very senior adviser, on United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, whose father is Ashanti.
Mr. Annan, who is currently on holiday in Ghana, became the first person to receive the title during a special event he attended last Friday to recognize him for his service to world peace, a UN spokesman said.
Last year, while visiting Sierra Leone, Mr. Annan also received a traditional title, equivalent to a "great warrior," in recognition of his work.
