UN to hold solemn ceremony of remembrance on 11 September

The United Nations has scheduled a solemn ceremony of remembrance on the morning of 11 September to mark the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States and to show solidarity with all those affected.

The event will serve "as an expression of shared loss with New York, our Host City, and with people throughout the world who lost loved ones," said UN spokesperson Hua Jiang.

In addition to Secretary-general Kofi Annan, the President of the UN General Assembly and the US Ambassador to the UN are expected to participate.
