Kosovo: UN police arrest two more for crimes committed during 1999

United Nations police have arrested two more people in connection with serious criminal offences against Kosovo Albanians in June 1999, the UN mission in the province announced today.

The two men voluntarily surrendered to police with the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) this afternoon at separate locations and have been taken into custody.

Today’s arrests follows the apprehension yesterday of four men who allegedly committed illegal detention and grievous assault against other Kosovo Albanians in 1999 after the conflict in the province had ended.

Contrary to some local media reports, none of the suspects have been released from custody, UNMIK said in a statement released in Pristina.

“One of the men arrested yesterday was accompanied by two bodyguards, who were detained briefly for reasons of security and who were then released,” the statement said. “However, the bodyguards were not subjects of this investigation.”
