UN to send letters to Israeli, Palestinian officials seeking information for report
The United Nations will soon contact Israeli and Palestinian authorities seeking input for a report – being prepared at the request of the General Assembly – on recent events that took place in Jenin and in other Palestinian cities, a UN spokesman announced today.
Letters requesting information “are being drafted and will go out in the next days,” spokesman Fred Eckhard told reporters in New York. He predicted that the report would take “six weeks or so” to draft.
The spokesman said that the report would be prepared by UN Secretariat staff and would be presented by Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
