Ethiopia/Eritrea: Security Council urges sides to work with UN on border decision

After meeting behind closed doors for a briefing on the peace process between Eritrea and Ethiopia, members of the United Nations Security Council today said the two sides should work together with the UN in carrying out a recent decision about the border between them.

"Council members reiterated the need for both parties to cooperate closely with the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission and UNMEE in the implementation of the boundary decision," the president of the Council, Ambassador Kishore Mahbubani of Singapore, said in a press statement. UNMEE is an acronym of the UN Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Council members also encouraged an early establishment of a common framework for the demarcation process and agreed to keep the situation under review, the statement said.
