UN food agency sends aid to 2,000 victims of flash floods in Afghanistan
Responding to the second flash flood to hit northern Afghanistan over the past two weeks, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today announced that it had sent 9 tons of food aid to some 2,000 people affected by the disaster.

The relief supplies - including 2.4 tons of oil, 1.6 tons of sugar and 5 tons of high energy biscuits - were dispatched on Tuesday to the town of Qala-i-Naw in Badghis province, where WFP reported that some 230 houses have been destroyed and up to 6 people killed by the floods. About 180 shops were also destroyed or washed off by the torrential rain.
Badghis is one of the most drought-affected provinces in Afghanistan. Over the last six months it received about 20,000 tons of food from WFP to help about 300,000 people suffering from the impact of the three-year devastating drought.
