Cyprus: Clerides and Denktash to begin direct talks in Nicosia on Wednesday

The Greek Cypriot leader and the Turkish Cypriot leader will begin direct talks in Nicosia on Wednesday, a United Nations spokesman announced today.

The direct talks between the Greek Cypriot leader, Glafkos Clerides, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Rauf Denktash, will be held in the UN Protected Area, spokesman Fred Eckhard told reporters in New York.

“The Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto, will be present,” the spokesman noted.
