New stamps commemorate Nobel Peace Prize awarded to UN, Annan

10 December 2001

The United Nations Postal Administration today issued commemorative stamps to mark this year's award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the UN and Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

The new stamps by the Vienna-based UNPA feature the UN flag with the caption "United for Peace."

There are three versions of the stamps in English, French and German, reflecting the three currencies of the UN Postal Administration.

Separately, UNPA issued special first day hand-cancellations in connection with the Nobel Peace Prize.

In addition, "United for Peace" limited edition special folders were issued from New York, Geneva and Vienna, featuring one full miniature sheet from each office as well as a full sheet stamp mount. The text of the citation of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize was also included.
