Head of health agency set to visit two Koreas
The head of the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) is slated to visit the two Koreas starting this weekend for a series of meetings with senior officials to discuss health-related issues in both countries, the agency said today.
The head of the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) is slated to visit the two Koreas starting this weekend for a series of meetings with senior officials to discuss health-related issues in both countries, the agency said today.
WHO Director-General Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland is scheduled to begin her visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Saturday. On 20 November, she will then travel to the Republic of Korea for a two-day visit.
While in the DPRK, Dr. Brundtland will assess the health situation and discuss future developments of the country's health system and investments to improve health. She will also open WHO's Country Office in Pyongyang.
Dr. Brundtland is expected to hold meetings with a number of government officials, including the President of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly and the Ministers of Health and Foreign Affairs.
In the Republic of Korea, Dr. Brundtland will have discussions with President Kim Dae-Jung, the Minister of Health and the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade and others.
