Heads of 25 UN agencies to discuss support for Africa

The heads of 25 United Nations organizations will gather in New York tomorrow for a two-day session on support for Africa, staff safety issues and ways of boosting the implementation of last year's Millennium Declaration.

In its discussion of Africa, the Administrative Committee on Coordination (ACC) - which brings together the heads of UN organizations, funds, programmes and specialized agencies - will focus on coordination among UN bodies at the country level as well as support for the New African Initiative.

On Friday and Saturday, at Secretary-General Kofi Annan's suggestion, the agency chiefs will review the progress so far in fulfilling the pledges in the landmark Millennium Declaration, and discuss ways of raising funds to move the implementation process forward.
