Annan, Giuliani to address General Assembly debate on terrorism on Monday

Secretary-General Kofi Annan and New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani will address the General Assembly on Monday when it begins a weeklong debate on measures to combat international terrorism.

According to a spokesman for the President of the 189-member Assembly, some 145 countries have elected to take part in the discussions, which are expected to last through Friday.

The debate will begin at 10 a.m. with a statement by General Assembly President Han Seung-soo of the Republic of Korea, followed by a statement by the Secretary-General. Mr. Giuliani is scheduled to address the Assembly at 9:45 a.m., prior to the formal opening of the debate.
