Zimbabwe: UN development agency welcomes agreement on land reform

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today welcomed the agreement reached on land reform in Zimbabwe.

Abdoulie Janneh, the Assistant Administrator and Director of UNDP's Africa Bureau, today said that the agency "warmly welcomes" the accord, which was concluded at yesterday's meeting of Commonwealth ministers in Abuja, Nigeria.

UNDP had been working very closely over the past year with the Government of Zimbabwe, commercial farmers, regional leaders, donors, and other parties to re-open dialogue on the issue, Mr. Janneh said. "We stand ready and willing to help in any way we can to implement the agreement," he added.
