Concluding Africa trip, Annan arrives in Sweden for official visit

Secretary-General Kofi Annan today arrived in Sweden for the start of an official visit after concluding his four-nation tour of Africa.

Upon his arrival, Mr. Annan was greeted by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Hans Dahlgren, and the Executive Director of the Dag Hammarskjold Foundation, Olle Nordberg, a United Nations spokesman said.

Tomorrow morning, the Secretary-General is expected to meet the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Birgitta Dahl, followed by a meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Anna Lindh, the spokesman said. Sweden's Prime Minister, Goran Persson, will host a luncheon in honour of the Secretary-General.

In the afternoon, Mr. Annan will travel to Uppsala, where on Thursday he will deliver the Dag Hammarskjold Lecture to the university.
