On 31 May 1994, as Rwanda was descending into chaos, Captain Mbaye Diagne, a military observer at the United Nations Assistance Mission in the country (UNAMIR), was in the capital, Kigali, driving back to the base when a mortar fell near his vehicle. Just 12 days from finishing up his service, he died instantly.

Experiencing the story of a person displaced in Ukraine – the suffering, joys, feelings of alienation and social exclusion, but also the sense of belonging – is possible for communities hosting the displaced persons due to a United Nations project that has turned testimonies into “books” in a so-called Living Library.

African Union-UN mission launches campaign in west Darfur against use of child soldiers

The African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has launched a campaign in west Darfur, Sudan, to raise awareness on the need to end the recruitment and use of child soldiers by armed forces and groups across the region.

The Security Council unanimously adopts a resolution imposing additional sanctions on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in response to that country’s continued pursuit of a nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programme.
