Myanmar authorities must do more to curb abuses against the Rohingya – UN expert

The fatal shooting of three Rohingya women is the latest example of law enforcement officials operating with complete impunity in western Myanmar, an independent United Nations expert today said, calling on Government authorities to investigate the incident.

UN mission deplores deadly attack against Afghan government workers

The United Nations mission in Afghanistan strongly condemned today’s attack against government employees in the capital, Kabul, which killed at least 17 civilians and injured 40 – the latest incident amid a worsening security environment in the country.

Nepal joins new UN initiative protecting journalists

The United Nations agency tasked with defending press freedom today launched a new project in Nepal aimed at increasing the safety of journalists and ending impunity in the crimes against media and media professionals, while also contributing to the overall peace effort in the country.
In Sittwe, Myanmar, many displaced people have moved into temporary shelters, but are dependent on aid due to insecurity and restrictions on movement.
