Timor-Leste: UNICEF reports malnutrition among children displaced by violence

Initial checks on children in makeshift camps for displaced persons in Timor-Leste today indicated that 15 per cent need immediate treatment for malnutrition after violence ripped through the small South-East Asian nation, driving more than 155,000 people, 15 per cent of the total population, from their homes.

Afghanistan: UN food agency renews appeal to fill critical funding shortfall

Facing a shortfall of more than a third in requested aid for Afghanistan, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has renewed its urgent appeal to donors to come up with “critical” additional funding to finance its activities for the rest of the year.

Cambodia: UN official urges ‘moral strength’ as judges sworn in for Khmer Rouge trial

Welcoming the swearing in today of judges for Cambodia's long-awaited trial of former Khmer Rouge leaders, accused of horrific crimes, including mass killings, during the 1970s, the United Nations Legal Counsel called on these officials to show the “moral strength” to help create a culture of accountability to replace “the sinister culture of impunity.”
